The leading cause of damage to most flooring is water. Many carpet cleaning and home restoration companies have arisen to remediate problems due to water damage. Flooring manufacturers have recognized this and have been working tirelessly through the years to find a solution to protect your floors. Over the past couple years, new products have been made with more and more waterproof protection. Bay Area homeowners have many options.

Carpeting that Resists Water Damage
One of the leading carpet manufacturers, Shaw Floors, came out with a new product – “Life Guard”. This carpet has waterproof backing that can handle up to 25,000 pounds of water pressure. Pets and kids are no longer able to create serious structural damage under your floors. The drastic damage currently possible with a water spill or urine accident will be a thing of the past. This doesn’t mean that cleaning doesn’t need to be done for the bacteria, odor, and appearance. Just that seeming into subflooring or foundations is over. This could be the next wave of carpets.
Hardwood Flooring with Waterproof Cores
Carpet is not the only form of flooring that has been given improved water protections. Flooring companies have also developed hardwood floor types with waterproof cores that allow them to withstand water damage. This is not fool proof, of course, the protection is generally at the first layer. While this type of flooring can’t withstand a flood, it would handle the regular accidents that Bay Area homes with adults, kids, and pets are used to.
Waterproof Vinyl Tiles are also an option available for the home.
Design Matters
One of the biggest design elements in a home is the flooring. As new flooring options grow, a question many East Bay homeowners have is “How stylish are they?”. While the selection is not gigantic, these waterproof floors come in beautiful varieties. Over the next few years, Bay Area homeowners will see larger selections of waterproof floors, with innovative design options only increasing.
Dublin Carpet has been a family owned business over the course of several decades but we strive on providing both traditional and cutting-edge flooring. We carry several brands of waterproof flooring and invite you into our showroom to check them out.
