Hardwood Floor Care

Hardwood Floor Care

Hardwood floors have become eye-catching to many home buyers today. They give warmth and character and when correctly cared for can last a lifetime. Here’s what you need to know about hardwood floor care so that they stay stunning and last for many years to come.

List of Contents

Take Your Shoes Off

When you walk on a wooden floor with unclean shoes, you are leaving lots of sand and dust behind. These rough particles can ruin your wood floors. Position mats both outside and inside exterior doors to reduce tracked-in dirt. In snowy or rainy weather, include a boot removal area to evade damage from water and ice.

Banish Dust Daily

One of the easiest ways to maintain your hardwood floors in good shape is to dust them frequently. While it might not appear like a big deal, dust can build up and cause scratches on the surface of the wood. Run a microfiber mop over your floors numerous times a week to eliminate dust and dirt. Not only will this keep your floors dirt-free, but it will also lessen the number of allergens in the air.

Re-Finish Every 3-5 Years

Over time, when your wood floors begin to look a little dull, they can be renewed through re-coating. A large amount of hardwood floors have polyurethane surface finishes. These finishes seal and guard the wood underneath and provide your floor a glossy shine.

Use Furniture Pads

Scratches are some of the toughest troubles to solve in wood floors. While some scratches are usual, others are preventable. One of the best ways to stop them is to add furniture pads to the legs of your sofas, tables, etc.

Use the Proper Tools to Clean Your Floor

Avoid string mops that put extreme amounts of water on the floor, which can be damaging, and push dust around, instead of picking up and removing dust. Use a dry or slightly damp cloth to straight away wipe up anything you spill, avoiding soaked or steam mops.

Trim Pet’s Nails

If you have dogs or cats, then they can also cause harm to your hardwood floor. Pet’s claws can scrape the floor very easily. Regularly trim your pet’s nails to evade any damage to the floor.

Use Doormats and Felt Protectors

The best way to keep dust and dirt at bay is to use doormats at each entrance. This will help to reduce the number of particles that are attached to the underneath of your shoes. Those particles can harm the finish of your hardwood floor over time. Likewise, the legs of your furniture can also scrape and damage the finish of your hardwood base. Be sure to use felt protectors on the legs of any equipment that comes in contact with the floor.
