Prevent Scratches on Hardwood Flooring

Are you shopping for hardwood flooring for your home? Planning a remodel is fun, but you might be worried about preventing scratches on your new floors. Not to worry. You can have the hardwood floors of your dreams. Just follow these Prevent Scratches on Hardwood Flooring tips to keep them looking their best.

List of Contents

Use Felt Pads on Furniture Legs

Felt pads are an easy and affordable way to care for your hardwood flooring, but they make a big difference. They simply stick onto the bottom of chair legs to prevent scuffing and scratches. Another key point is to make sure to lift furniture off of your hardwood floors when you rearrange it, rather than dragging it across the room.

Take Your Shoes Off

You may already be in the habit of removing your shoes at the door, but this is another way to keep your floors safe, and the best part is it’s free. You can place a stylish coat rack with a shoe shelf at the entrance to keep things neat and tidy.

Entryway Mats

Pebbles and other debris can prevent scratch hardwood flooring, but heavy-duty entryway mats are an easy fix. Keep stones and debris outside where they belong by placing high-quality mats at all entry points.

Invest in Area Rugs

Area rugs are useful for areas like the dining room table, where chairs are frequently moved around. Of course, a rug in this location might be more likely to stain from spilled food, but it will prevent scratches on your new Dublin hardwood floors. Clear office chair mats are an option for use at computer stations and desks.

Clean Often

No matter how careful we are, dirt and grime inevitably end up in the house. Be sure to regularly sweep or use a vacuum cleaner that’s safe for hardwood flooring. Once you’ve removed debris that could scuff your floors, a quick once-over with a Swiffer is faster than mopping.

Trim Pet Nails

If you have dogs that come inside, be sure to keep their nails trimmed. This is important for their health, but also to prevent scratches on your home flooring. You can order a special tool to do this at home, or take them to the groomer for a quick trim. Most dogs don’t like having their nails clipped, but if they’re indoor pups, their nails aren’t naturally worn down from the outdoor environment. Groomers generally charge around $20 to trim pet nails and it doesn’t take very long. Another thing to consider is that they’re also more experienced and less likely to nick a capillary or cause your dog pain or discomfort.
