The Different Carpet Fibers: What to Consider When Buying New Carpeting

Currently, over 64.8% of Americans are classified officially as homeowners. If you fall into this category, you know the importance of making sure your home is in peak condition by getting all the latest renovations.

One of the most essential parts of home maintenance is changing your carpeting out ever so often. Not only will this change be a fun way to make your space feel fresh and new, but it will also increase the cleanliness of your home. Carpet fibers get dirt and trap moisture after a while, and it’s best to avoid that.

If you agree but aren’t sure where to start looking for your house’s new carpeting, you’ve come to the right place. Read on to learn about the different types of carpet fibers as well as some of the best styles of carpeting on the market. Then you can make an informed decision about what’s best for you!

Types of Carpet Fibers

Below are the pros and cons of some of the most common carpet fibers on the market.

Wool

Wool is one of the all-time best carpet fibers out there because it’s incredibly soft as well as environmentally friendly. It doesn’t get dirty or wear out easily, either, so it’s easy to maintain in any room of your home. The only real downside to wool is that it’s expensive to buy, but if you can afford it, you should definitely check wool carpeting out.

Polyester

Polyester is definitely cheaper than wool, and it offers some of the same advantages: it’s stain-resistant and environmentally friendly (because it’s made from recycled materials.) However, it might need to be replaced more often since it wears out a lot more quickly than wool does.

Nylon

Nylon is good because it’s pretty resilient against wear and tear. While it’s not as expensive as wool, nylon carpeting still goes for a pretty hefty sum. Unlike wool, though, they aren’t very environmentally conscious. Most of the time, they aren’t made from renewable resources.

Choosing Your Carpeting

When choosing your carpeting, you’re going to want to look at the various color and pattern options available to you. You’ll want to ensure that the carpet you choose goes with the rest of your interior decor. Make sure that colors don’t clash and that patterns match up reasonably well. This is your home- you don’t want it to make your head spin whenever you enter a room!

Also, make sure that you’re choosing the right carpet fibers for the location that you’re putting it down in. You’ll want something resistant to wear and tear (like nylon!) in areas that have a lot of traffic. You’ll want wool in your bedroom, maybe, since lots of people like to vary their positions and sit on the floor occasionally.

Get Shopping

While home renovations can be a challenge, it’s all worth it once you’re running your toes through your soft new carpeting.

Now that you know the most common types of carpet fibers as well as how to choose between styles of carpeting, it’s time to get shopping for your new flooring. Click here to browse our selection of carpets and look into which one you may want to purchase.
